Current limitations

Field status

Civilization Science is a proposed interdisciplinary research program, not an established discipline or scientific consensus.

Construct validity

Cooperation, trust, effective input, entropy, and stability are latent constructs; no universal measurement model has been validated.

Dimensionality and identification

Multilevel systems can generate more parameters than observations. Dimensional reduction must be justified, tested, and reversible where possible.

Data coverage and bias

Historical and contemporary records are uneven across regions, languages, populations, institutions, and time. Missingness is rarely random.

Causal inference

Correlation, prediction, and simulation do not by themselves identify causal mechanisms or valid interventions.

Parameter non-universality

Weights, scales, lags, thresholds, and interaction terms may change across systems and periods. They must be estimated, not presumed universal.

Dynamic drift

Continuous data streams can change definitions, sensors, incentives, and populations. Models require drift detection and versioned recalibration.

Normative boundary

A stability score cannot decide what is just, legitimate, meaningful, or worth preserving. Normative judgments require separate public reasoning.

Dual-use risk

Measurement and simulation may be misused for surveillance, manipulation, exclusion, or coercive optimization. Access and publication require risk review.

The Society is in formation. English is authoritative for this revision; Chinese and Arabic pages are access translations, not separate editions.

What would improve confidence

Confidence should rise only through preregistered tests, transparent datasets, independent replication, adversarial review, failed-prediction reporting, calibration across regions and periods, and sustained correction records.
